UPDATED WITH LOCATION CHANGEOn Thursday, June 20, 2019, the Little Hoover Commission will conduct a public hearing to revisit critical issues raised in past studies and understand the effectiveness of the Commission’s recommendations. The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Room 447 of the State Capitol in Sacramento.
The hearing will revisit the Commission’s 2006 report, Safeguarding the Golden State: Preparing for Catastrophic Events, where it recommended consolidating the Office of Emergency Services and the Office of Homeland Security into a single cabinet-level agency, led by an experienced leader appointed by the Governor. The Commission also will reexamine recommendations made in its 2012 report, Serving Students, Serving California: Updating the California Community Colleges to Meet Evolving Demands, to foster measurable student progress in three core areas of study. There will be an opportunity for public comment at the end of the hearing. Public comments will be limited to three minutes per person. The Commission also encourages written comments.
The Commission endeavors to broadcast its hearings live, but this is dependent on the availability of Assembly TV the day of the hearing. Live broadcasts can be viewed on The California Channel at http://www.calchannel.com/live-webcast/. The hearing will be video-recorded and will be made available on The California Channel’s archives at the following link: http://www.calchannel.com/video-on-demand/.
Immediately following the hearing, the Commission will hold a business meeting in Room 175 at 925 L Street in Sacramento. The Commission may take action on any item listed on the agenda, unless listed as informational only. Times are approximate and subject to change. Agenda items may be taken out of order to accommodate speakers and to maintain a quorum. The meeting may be cancelled without notice. Written comments on the agenda items should be submitted to the Commission no later than 12:00 p.m. the day before the meeting. Email comment letters to littlehoover@lhc.ca.gov. Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment on any item on the Commission’s business meeting agenda.
If you need reasonable accommodation due to a disability, please contact the Little Hoover Commission at (916) 445-2125 or littlehoover@lhc.ca.gov by Thursday, June 13, 2019
