1993-1994 Legislative Session

The Commission supported 92 pieces of legislation in 15 different topic areas during the 1993-1994 legislative session. In some cases, the bills were outgrowths of recent studies conducted by the Commission. But in other cases, Commission backing for measures was based on recommendations from reports that are still relevant today despite being issued up to 10 years ago.

Commission support had to be withdrawn from five bills when amendments made them no longer compatible with Commission recommendations. Of the remaining 87, 44 were signed into law for a success rate of 51 percent. The Commission was most successful with bills on the adult criminal justice system, state procurement functions and Workers’ Compensation. The Commission had moderate success with bills on revenue collection, elder care, education and children’s services. No progress was made on transportation, recycling and the State’s property management.
